Digital marketing across North Kent — and where our local knowledge actually runs deep
Digital Versify is based in Gravesend and works with businesses throughout the Gravesham and Dartford boroughs, extending into Medway to cover Gillingham. This page sets out exactly which towns we cover, why proximity changes what a local search strategy has to do, and which page to read next for your area.

Why most “areas we cover” pages are worthless
The standard version of this page is a list of thirty town names, each linking to a page that is the same page with one word swapped. It exists to catch searches, not to tell you anything. Google’s March 2026 core update explicitly reduced visibility for exactly that pattern, and the assistants that now answer a growing share of local queries treat contradictory or unverifiable location claims as a reason to recommend somebody else.
So this page does something different. It tells you the nine places we actually work, how far each one is, which borough or authority it sits in, and — the part almost nobody publishes — what genuinely changes about a marketing strategy depending on where your business trades from. Some of it changes a great deal. Some of it does not change at all, and pretending otherwise would be selling you something.
What we will not claim. That we have deep operational knowledge of every town in Kent. We do not. Nine places are listed below because those are the nine we can speak about with specifics — the high streets, the competitive density, the search behaviour. If your town is not here, the work can still be done remotely and done well; you just will not get a page pretending we know your parade of shops.
Every town we cover, with the detail that actually matters
Distance and drive time are from Gravesend town centre. Borough or authority matters more than most businesses realise — it determines which local directories, business networks and council listings are relevant to your citation profile.
| Town | Postcode | Borough | Distance | What the local search market looks like |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gravesend | DA11, DA12 | Gravesham | Base | The densest local competition in the borough and the largest search volume. Map pack positions are genuinely contested here. |
| Northfleet | DA11 | Gravesham | 1.5 mi · 6 min | Shares the DA11 postcode with Gravesend, which means proximity-based rankings frequently bleed across both towns. |
| Istead Rise | DA13 | Gravesham | 3 mi · 9 min | Small residential catchment. Service businesses here compete for Gravesend queries rather than Istead Rise ones. |
| Swanscombe | DA10 | Dartford | 3.5 mi · 10 min | Sits between two boroughs and near Ebbsfleet development. Growing search demand, still thin local competition. |
| Southfleet | DA13 | Gravesham | 4 mi · 11 min | Village catchment. Very low local search volume, so strategy leans on the wider Gravesham and Dartford radius. |
| Higham | ME3 | Gravesham | 4.5 mi · 12 min | ME postcode places it in Medway’s search orbit as well as Gravesham’s. Businesses here often need both targeted. |
| Meopham | DA13 | Gravesham | 5.5 mi · 13 min | One of Kent’s longest villages. Affluent catchment, low competitive density, unusually good return on local SEO. |
| Dartford | DA1, DA2 | Dartford | 8 mi · 18 min | The most competitive market we cover. Higher volume, more established agencies, and a genuinely harder map pack. |
| Gillingham | ME7, ME8 | Medway | 10 mi · 20 min | Fused into a five-town conurbation with Chatham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham. Local pack rivals routinely span all five. |
Why the town you trade from changes your results more than your budget does
This is the part that gets left out of most local marketing conversations, and it is the single most useful thing on this page.
Google’s local results — the map pack that sits above the ordinary blue links — are not ranked purely on quality. Proximity between the searcher and the business is one of the three primary factors, alongside relevance and prominence. That has a consequence most businesses never have explained to them: your physical location partly determines which searches you can realistically win, no matter how good your marketing is.
What that means in practice across North Kent and Medway
A plumber in Meopham and a plumber in Gravesend town centre are not competing on level ground for the query “plumber near me” typed from Gravesend high street. The Gravesend business is nearer, and proximity favours it. The Meopham business can still win — through a stronger profile, better reviews and more relevant content — but it is climbing a gradient the other business is not. A Gillingham business faces a different version of the same problem: it is not competing against one neighbour, but against Chatham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham inside the same search radius.
Small towns are cheap to win, but the prize is smaller
Southfleet, Istead Rise and Higham have low competitive density. Ranking first locally is achievable quickly. The search volume behind that position is modest, so the strategy has to reach outward into Gravesend and Dartford queries too.
Shared postcodes and conurbations blur the boundary
Northfleet and Gravesend share DA11. Southfleet, Istead Rise and Meopham all share DA13. Gillingham sits fused into a five-town Medway conurbation with no clear break at all. Rankings leak across those boundaries constantly, which is an opportunity if you plan for it and a confusion if you do not.
Borough or authority determines your citation set
A Swanscombe or Dartford business belongs in Dartford Borough Council listings. A Meopham business belongs in Gravesham’s. A Gillingham business belongs in Medway Council’s. Getting this wrong weakens the local signals that map pack rankings depend on.
The practical read. If your business sits outside Gravesend, the correct strategy is usually not to fight for the town-centre queries you are geographically disadvantaged on. It is to own your own town completely — which is cheap — and then compete on relevance and prominence for the wider radius, where proximity matters less. That is a different plan from the one most agencies would sell you, and it is set out per town on each area page.
If the map pack mechanic is new to you, our explainer on what a Google map pack is and how businesses get into it covers the full ranking model, and Google Business Profile optimisation covers the profile work that drives the prominence half of it.
Honest about which parts of the work are location-dependent
Agencies tend to imply that everything is bespoke to your town. Most of it is not. Here is the accurate split.
Genuinely changes by town
- Google Business Profile service area and category strategy. The radius you declare, and whether you present as a storefront or a service-area business, depends entirely on where you are.
- Local citation and directory targets. Gravesham borough listings for six of the towns, Dartford borough listings for two, and Medway Council listings for Gillingham. Higham additionally sits within Medway’s orbit through its ME3 postcode.
- Which local keywords are worth chasing. “Electrician Meopham” has a fraction of the volume of “electrician Dartford” and a fraction of the difficulty. The right target list differs sharply, and a Gillingham business often needs to target “Medway” phrasing alongside its own town name.
- Competitive analysis. Dartford businesses face established agencies and mature competitors. Southfleet businesses often face almost nobody optimising at all. Gillingham businesses compete against four neighbouring towns inside one search radius.
- Content angle and local proof. References, landmarks, catchment language and the specific customer problems that come up in that town.
Does not change by town
- Pricing. SEO from £300 a month, local SEO from £250, websites from £500 — the same figure in Gillingham as in Higham. No travel surcharge, no postcode premium.
- Technical SEO, site speed and site structure. A slow website is slow in every town. The fixes are identical.
- Content quality standards and the method behind them. Set out in full on each service page.
- Contract terms and account ownership. Rolling monthly, thirty days’ notice, every account in your name, everywhere.
- Reporting and measurement. Same Search Console and Analytics setup, same monthly read, same numbers you can verify yourself.
Why say this out loud? Because a business in Southfleet paying the same as a business in Gillingham should know precisely what the local element of the work is and what it is not. If an agency cannot tell you which parts of their service are genuinely tailored to your town, the honest conclusion is usually that none of them are.
Every service is available in every town listed above
Service pages are written from Gravesend because that is where the work is based, but the method, the pricing and the terms apply identically across the whole coverage area.

Content Marketing
Priced per scope
The topical depth that makes a site rank for more than its service pages, and gives AI assistants something substantive to cite.
Social Media Marketing
Priced per scope
Platform-appropriate presence and the branded mentions that increasingly correlate with visibility in AI-generated answers.
Not sure which applies to you? The services page has a symptom-to-service diagnosis table that works backwards from the problem you are actually having, and SEO versus PPC for Gravesend businesses covers the most common first decision.
What working with a local agency actually involves
Being fifteen minutes away is only useful if it changes something. Here is what it changes and what it does not.
Meetings are available, not compulsory
Across all nine towns we can meet at your premises. Plenty of clients never take that up and the work is no worse for it. Nothing in the service requires physical presence.
Knowing the market, not just the postcode
Knowing that Meopham’s catchment behaves differently from Dartford’s, or that Gillingham needs both Medway-wide and town-specific targeting, comes from working here. That part is genuinely local and genuinely useful.
You can find us
Digital Versify Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 15853406, based in Gravesend. That is a public, checkable record. A national agency with a rented virtual address in your town is not offering the same thing.
The work itself is identical everywhere
Search Console, Analytics, your Business Profile and your website are all reached the same way from anywhere. Proximity does not make the technical work better. Claiming it does would be dishonest.
If your town is not on the list
Two situations come up regularly, and they have different answers.
You trade from a North Kent or Medway town we have not listed
Strood, Rochester, Longfield, Ebbsfleet, Greenhithe, Cobham, Shorne, Vigo, Chatham and Rainham all sit within sensible reach, and we do take on businesses there. They do not have dedicated pages because we would rather publish a page when there is something specific to say about that market than publish thin ones now. Message us and you will get a straight read on whether your local search market is worth attacking and how.
You are based here but sell far beyond here
A consultancy, an e-commerce business or a professional services firm in Gravesend may serve clients across Kent, London or nationally. Ebbsfleet International puts St Pancras seventeen minutes away, and a lot of local businesses have a market far wider than their postcode. In that case local SEO is the wrong primary lever — the strategy is built around national organic search, content depth and paid search instead, with the Business Profile as a trust signal rather than the main channel. Gravesend business trends covers how the local commercial base has shifted.
Straight answer either way. If your market is national and you would be better served by an agency with sector-specific experience in your vertical, we will tell you that. It costs a potential client and saves you a year.
